I have been looking for a compact feature phone at an affordable cost for some time in India now. Strangely, none of the phones in this category are good. The problem is not the lack of choices in the market. That’s aplenty. It’s the quality and features in this category which lacks severely.
Here is what I care for in the device I am searching :
– build quality
– call quality
– easy to type on
– long battery life.
– Bluetooth (optional )
I do not care much about browser, camera or other fancy features because this will be my secondary phone.
None of the phones I have seen so far offer features like these. Most of the devices seem like a confused set of features and cannot establish an identity of their own. They try to add something of everything in the phone rather than best of just somethings.
Even my father once mentioned he needs a simple phone with just big font display.
I am sure there would be others in the market like me looking for a similar product.
Microsoft has definitely placed the newly launched Surface Tablets cleverly. Android is a weak player in the tablet category. Unlike Mobile Phones, where HTC, Samsung, Sony etc. have at-least one decent android product each, there is almost nothing they have in terms of build quality and software which comes close to Apple’s iPad.
I feel there are two problems Microsoft has to address.
First, would be the availability of Apps. In case of Android and iOS, there was already an existing set of apps available for their mobile platform when they launched their tablets.
The Windows 8 platform on the other hand is entirely new. Windows + Nokia combination has yet to see a hit smartphone. That translates to lack of developers on the platform and hence lack of apps on tablet.
Secondly, In order for the tablet to succeed, there needs to be a killer feature on-board. The first version of iPad was revolutionary. The third iPad is “resolutionary”(a great looking screen). There is a clear differentiation in case of Apple products. What would that be for Microsoft Tablets ?
Just thought of scribbling down thoughts on current IT and Technology Field. Maybe vent out some anger or praise new happenings in these fields as I write.
The blog is called “betaar” which means “wireless” in hindi.
